New digital 360° tour »Caspar David Friedrich. Art for a New Age«

The new digital 360° tour »Caspar David Friedrich. Art for a New Age« provides a virtual experience of the eponymous exhibition celebrating the 250th birthday of the most important Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich (1774, Greifswald–1840, Dresden). It allows the audience to navigate independently through the extensive exhibition right from their home, and thus to discover over 60 paintings along with around 100 drawings by Caspar David Friedrich and 20 selected works by artist friends such as Carl Gustav Carus, Johan Christian Dahl, August Heinrich and Georg Friedrich Kersting.

Using the zoom function, details of selected paintings and drawings can be examined in high-resolution images. An integrated audio tour (approx. 35 min.) provides information and exciting insights into over fifteen highlight works. Texts on the different chapters of the exhibition and more than 30 other individual works offer additional inspiration for a personal approach to Caspar David Friedrich. For anyone interested, immediate access to the tour is available free of charge via the website of the Hamburger Kunsthalle. All you need to do is purchase a 0€ ticket. The access link is then sent to you in the form of a confirmation e-mail, and once you have entered the password sent with it, the 360° tour is free to be explored.

The digital tour comprises the works of Caspar David Friedrich and his contemporaries. Not included are the works by contemporary artists belonging to a separate part of the Friedrich exhibition at the Hamburger Kunsthalle. The digital tour is part of the web portal cdfriedrich.de, funded by the Federal Commissioner for Culture and the Media as part of the Culture Data Space.
