Families & Children

Children are little experts when it comes to looking at art! While they may not be able to name the artist, kids have a keen eye for detail and a vivid imagination that can open up fascinating new perspectives. At the Hamburger Kunsthalle we welcome visitors of all ages, and we’ve put together a few helpful tips if you’re planning to visit the museum with children.

Before you visit, talk to your children about what they are going to see in the museum and remind them of the most important museum regulations. Make it clear to them that they must not touch the artworks, as the natural oils on the skin of our fingers can damage the surface of the works. Also tell them that eating, drinking and running around in the galleries are forbidden in order to protect the artworks on display from damage.

You are welcome to bring a pushchair for your child; all of our public areas are fully accessible. If you and your family get hungry during your visit, drop in to our café or restaurant where you’ll find plenty of child-friendly options. And on a more practical note, you’ll find toilets and baby changing facilities in both the original Kunsthalle building and the Gallery of Contemporary Art.
